Event Pick: Quintron, Bermuda Triangles and Yoga Demon at Strange Matter

Wednesday, June 17
by Chris Bopst
Quintron isn’t your average musician — nothing he plays can be bought at Guitar Center. The German-born innovator, multi-instrumentalist and showman makes his own instruments to create party music all his own. At the root of his analog-based sound is Drum Buddy, a mechanically rotating, five-oscillator, light-activated drum machine. The versatile, handcrafted, beat-delivery system allows the man also known as Robert Rolston to play his custom-made Hammond Rhodes combo synthesizer and organ overtop of mechanized rhythms so that he and his wife, Miss Pussycat, can deliver their one-of-a-kind take on New Orleans-inspired festivity. Joyously idiosyncratic, Quintron and Miss Pussycat bring their carnivalesque dance party to Strange Matter on Wednesday, June 17. You’ll also hear the three-drummer, junk electronic sound of Richmond’s Bermuda Triangles and fellow River City noise duo, Yoga Demon. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $10. strangematterrva.com.
